There’s something about the warmer weather that just begs for bright shades of makeup. The winter seems somber, almost serious, making it perfect for subdued browns and grays; but the summer … well, it just screams daiquiris and popsicles and the need for pinks, blues, and even yellows in your look. I’ve already started making a list of bright summer products that I’m going to have to get my hands on (and some that I’ve already tried and can’t rave about enough). Here’s a list of a few of my favorites so far:
1. Givenchy’s Le Prismissime 9-Colors Eyeshadow: This limited-edition eye shadow palette has nine shades in it, all of which were inspired by neon lights. It’s a true smorgasbord of color with shadows ranging from matte shades of blue, purple, and green to mother-of-pearl-infused orange, yellow, and white. I haven’t seen this one in person yet, but I’ve been stalking it online because I’ve rarely (if ever) been disappointed by any of their products. It’s a big, big splurge at $62, but it will definitely last you for a long time since you most likely won’t be using the shades on a daily basis. This is definitely at the top of my lust list for the summer.
2. Illamasqua is known for its electric shades, and while some of them are a little too out there for me, its bright nail polishes are perfect for summer pedicures. I could easily pick up the entire line, but my personal pick for the hot weather is Gamma, a bright orange with a glossy finish. It looks ripe and juicy and so pretty on my toes. I’m even working up the nerve to try it on my fingers after seeing similar shades on the models in a few different magazines. Why not? You only live once ….
3. Stila’s Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liners are my new obsession. They’re available in eight different shades, each of them brighter and more sparkly than the last. They have some serious staying power and they don’t budge at all once they’ve dried. The colors are really unique and perfect for the beach—my two favorite brights are Bora Bora (a bright turquoise) and Curacao (a sparkling violet blue). They’re turning me into a serious liquid-liner fan, and that’s something I never thought I’d say (mostly because I’m so terrible at applying it!).
4. When the weather is hot and sticky, the last thing I want is for my lips to feel dry, so I almost always wear lip gloss in the summer. NARS’ lip glosses are some of my go-to shades, and so far, they also make my favorite new summer bright, Wonder. It’s a sheer mandarin orange with pink and gold shimmer and is colorful without being overpowering; plus the sparkles add a fun, festive touch. It’s been a constant in my bag since I got it—I just hope my tube makes it through August!
Now that I have some of my summer makeup in place, bring on the pool parties!
