Bring on the Drama!

One of the best things about the holiday season is getting to play around with different dramatic makeup looks. And if I’m going dramatic, as much as I like a bold lip, I much prefer to save the fireworks for my eyes and make them the focal point.  As women, we’re kind of trained to point out what we don’t like on our bodies, but one of the things I do like a lot is my green eyes.  I’ve always gotten compliments on them, so if I’m going to try and make anything stand out, it’s going to be them.
My most recent mascara obsession comes from Lancôme. Before I tried their new Hypnôse Star mascara, I can’t even remember the last mascara I’d used from them.  For some reason, they’ve just never been a go to for me and mascara, but after trying Hypnôse Star, I might have to reevaluate because I could be missing out on other great ones.  It has this really cool brush that has both a flat side, for getting the mascara exactly where you want it and pulling off the excess product so you don’t wind up with clumps, and a round side to separate and lengthen your lashes.  What I like to do is put on two coats – one with each side – to get the optimal benefits from each.  I also love that it doesn’t flake or smudge, because as someone who wears contacts, there’s nothing that makes me toss a mascara faster than that.  It’s available in a shade called Black Diamond and the packaging even has some sparkles at the bottom of it, but don’t be fooled – as far as I could tell, the mascara is just a deep black – I didn’t see any glitter on my lashes or anything, which is how I’d prefer it anyway because I'd rather put that on my lids.  I just get thick, dark, voluminous lashes – perfect for creating drama.
That being said, if you’re going to be dramatic, there’s no better way to show it off than glitter. I love using it on my eyes because it’s a little unexpected and it always gets attention. And if I’m using it in a liner, I almost always turn to Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liners. They’re available in a variety of shades – everything from blue to green to purple – and they all sparkle an amazing amount.  When they catch the light, it’s almost like you’re wearing jewelry on your eyes. They’re liquid liners, which makes them a little harder to apply (at least for me) but if you practice, the results will definitely be worth it. If I had to pick only one for someone else to buy though, it would be Glam Rock.  It’s a stunning silver shade that’s really versatile because you can wear it on its own or layer it over pretty much any other shade of eye makeup to add some sparkle to your look.  It’ll definitely be in my makeup bag when I travel to the east coast this holiday because you never know when you’re going to need to stand out.
Hopefully, if you pick up these two items, all the drama during your holiday will be in your makeup choices and not at your parties.
