I’m heading to Spain in a few weeks. I am very, very excited about it because I haven’t been on a real vacation in years and I’ve only been to Spain once, when I was Eurailing after a semester abroad in college. I’m really looking forward to being in that country without having to stay in a hostel, because as much fun as Eurailing was, having to lock up your bags every day and shower in a bathroom straight out of a horror movie is not my idea of relaxing! I’m also slightly worried about the long plane rides to get there. Not only do I get airsick, but I also inevitably find myself with dry lips, even if they were perfectly fine right before I boarded. This time, I’m stocking up on products to combat that and making sure they’re in my bag and at hand.

The same company that makes the famous Smith’s Rosebud Salve also makes a Menthol & Eucalyptus Balm that I’m obsessed with. Lately I’ve been putting it on every night before I go to bed, and my lips are always smooth when I wake up. The scent is calming and soothing and I’m hoping that it helps to calm my queasy stomach in-flight. It also comes in the cutest vintage-looking tin, and at only $6, it’s a great bargain because you get a ton of product for only slightly more money than a venti latte at Starbucks. It’s one of my everyday staples now and it’ll definitely be with me on my long journey to Europe.

A pricier (but still fabulous) option is Ole Henriksen’s African Red Tea Exfoliating Lip Salvation. At $15, it’s not the cheapest lip balm, but since I love it so much and I’ve had my tin forever without making too much of a dent in it, I’m okay with the price. It has this amazing fruity scent, plus it’s slightly grainy, so it exfoliates as you rub it on, making it more like two products in one. It has a ton of different emollient and conditioning extracts in it and it seems to last forever. I swear, I only have to put this on once every five hours or so, which is great for a lip balm since on me they usually fade quickly. It also has a hint of a rosy pink color that I like because it adds a little tint to my lips that the Menthol & Eucalyptus balm doesn’t. (I don’t normally care what I look like when I’m flying, but you never know who you’re going to be sitting next to, right?)

Now that I have my lips covered, I just have to start narrowing down my book choices. Sigh…traveling involves so many tough decisions!
