Holiday Splurges

When it comes to the holidays, I know that we're all running around like crazy, trying to enjoy ourselves while getting through the madness that is holiday parties, finishing up work projects before the break, buying presents for everyone on your list...  It can be a madhouse!  I, for one, am completely booked up this weekend from Friday night to Sunday night and while I'm looking forward to everything I'm doing, I'd also love to just be able to sack out on the couch for a few hours in my sweats, reading magazines and catching up on my Tivo.  But since that can't happen for most of us, instead, I suggest sometime during the craziness, you treat yourself to a holiday splurge you otherwise wouldn't have thought about buying.  It's a surefire way to put yourself in a good mood and get you through December (and maybe even January!)

I'm obsessed with Fresh's Sugar Lip products, but let's face it - they're pricey.  As much as I love them, some of them are very sheer, so spending almost $25 on a lip product that I usually layer over another one makes me cringe.  That being said, I highly, highly recommend the Sugar Soiree Set.  It's expensive at first ($65) but you get every single one of the shades available - eight total - which includes six colors (Plum, Passion, Honey, Coral, Rose and Berry) and the Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy and Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15.  They're not full-sized, but each tube is still a really good size that will definitely last you for a long time, especially since you'll have so many different ones to choose from.  My personal favorites are Berry, a gorgeous deep purple, and Passion, a light red.  I have both of the full-sized ones and use them constantly, so getting mini versions to take with me too is just the icing on the cake.  And if you suffer from chapped lips at all, the Advanced Therapy is a miracle worker.  You'll be just as obsessed with it as I am!

Until I tried my first La Mer product, I admit, I was skeptical.  I thought they were just really expensive versions of products I could find in my local drugstore or Sephora.  And then I tried them.  Oh, how wrong I was!  There's a reason women will eat Ramen noodles to afford La Mer products, and that reason is that they work.  And work very, very well.  My recent splurge has been picking up La Mer's The SPF 30 UV Protecting Fluid.  I've been putting it on under my makeup as my sunscreen and even though I don't think it's technically a moisturizer, my skin looks great without anything else on top of it.  It just makes me... glow, for lack of a better word.  It's not greasy at all, it blends in like a dream, and it provides sun protection.  It's just amazing.  At $70, it's not exactly budget friendly, but it does last for a long time and the way I look at it, that's a justifiable expense to protect my skin.  Tell yourself the same thing and watch how fast your credit card will come out of your wallet!

Ahh, splurges.  There's nothing better than coming home with something fancy you're excited to use.  Happy shopping!
