Phillip Lim’s spring 2014 collection was inspired by geology—the earth and the rocks of which it is made. His inspiration played such a literal role in his show that elemental white rocks were strewn across the runway. The show started with a sheer, black organza jacket with geode-inspired embroidery. The same geode swirl was seen throughout Lim’s collection on tops, skirts, pants, and dresses. To keep with the earthy, geological theme, Phillip used jacquards to emulate wood grain and metallic finishes to suede vests to represent the crystals in rocks. The collection also housed Kimono-sleeved boxy jackets, brown, white, and black dyed tops, bottoms, and jackets, and flowy knee-length skirts. Some of the most note-worthy looks included a multi-colored, fringed paneled top with cuffed trousers, and a white leather jacket with western trimmed fringe on the sleeves. Overall the collection was texture-oriented and terrestrial-chic.
