Scrub Yourself Clean

In the winter, my skin gets extremely dry, so I exfoliate often to keep my skin really smooth. There’s something so satisfying about a good scrub—it just feels fabulous, especially right before a long, hot shower. I could seriously do it every day if I had the time. Right now, I have two favorite body scrubs that I would buy by the gallon—that is, if I could afford to and had the storage space!

AHAVA Softening Butter Salt Scrub has been a staple in my shower for the past few months. It contains extracts of mandarin and cedarwood that give it a fabulous scent, and jojoba and coconut oils to condition and hydrate skin. It’s not at all harsh or sting-y when you use it; it’s super-soft (for a salt scrub) and won’t irritate sensitive skin—I’m proof of that!  You can apply it dry, straight from the container, or you can add a little water to transform it into an exfoliating lotion. I also love that it’s part of their Dead Sea line, with its high consistency of healing minerals. I’ve done a lot of research on Dead Sea products, and they’re among the best things that you can use on your skin to relax it, reduce tension, and just generally keep it as healthy as possible. This scrub isn’t super-expensive either—at $24 for 12.3 ounces, you’ll get a lot of use out of one jar and you can generally use coupons or find AHAVA products on sale at ULTA or other beauty chains.
My other favorite scrub is one that almost every beauty editor I know raves about, but there’s a reason why Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish is so popular—it’s simply amazing.  It’s a gentle moisturizing scrub that smells as good as anything you’ll ever sniff. The scent is rich, warm and delicious, like lemon and brown sugar. The scrub is made with a blend of pure brown sugar and oils so it’s naturally moisturizing without being sticky at all (and like the AHAVA scrub, it’s gentle). I have serious, serious love for this and the way it exfoliates. Like most Fresh products, it’s pricy at $65 for a 14.1 ounce container, so I only splurge on it on special occasions and then ration it out so it lasts as long as possible. It’s the most fun thing ever to take home from the store, though, so the next time you’re looking for something to reward yourself with, grab this one and go.  You won’t regret it!
