By now you’ve undoubtedly updated your spring wardrobe with a few fantastic frocks and killer sandals—but have you transitioned your skincare routine, too? Seasonal changes are notorious for wreaking havoc on complexions, causing breakouts, dryness, and irritation. Fun! Here, a few of my tried-and-true skin savers for putting your best face forward. 

 


Clean up your act. Now’s the time to switch to a gentle yet deeper-cleansing face wash than what you may have been using. We’re not going for squeaky-clean here, girls, just balanced and comfortable. Anything too drying is going to cause your skin to compensate by producing more oil. Best Bet: Fresh Soy Face Cleanser ($15)









Buff it away now. Chances are that dead, dry skin cells have taken up residence over the winter, dulling your complexion and keeping it from properly absorbing the moisture it needs. Buff them away one to two times a week for brighter, smoother skin. Best Bet: Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Gentle ($65)








Slap on some sunscreen. If you haven’t been wearing it daily, it’s time to start. SPF 30 is the new SPF 15, and it’s come a long way from the thick, white goop you might recall from your lifeguarding days. Go for a moisturizer with sun protection built right in, which will make you more likely to wear it. And don’t forget your neck! Best Bet: Olay Pro-X Age Repair Lotion SPF 30 ($42)







Breakouts? Don’t freak out. Sometimes, no matter how good we are to our skin, it lashes out. If you’re experiencing any minor breakouts, treat them to some extra TLC with a redness-reducing, pore-refining mask; then dab spots with a clear salicylic acid treatment so you can get on with your day!
