You Cheeky Thing

If there’s one makeup item that I’m not always excited to buy, it’s blush. I don’t know why, it’s just not… exciting to me. I definitely notice a difference when I’m wearing it and I know I look better with it on, but shopping for it just doesn’t thrill me the way shopping for nail polish or lipstick does. It’s probably the item I reach for the least in stores, and packing it annoys me because when I’m trying to conserve space in my (perpetually over-stuffed) bags, each container of blush takes up too much valuable room. This has led me to the one thing that’s gotten me excited about blush since I started buying it—cheek palettes! Genius idea. They give you color flexibility, plenty of options in a small amount of space, plus the ability to one-stop-shop and not think about blush again for a while. Here are my two favorite palettes at the moment.

If you like shimmery blushes, you won’t be able to resist Tarina Tarantino’s Dollskin Cheek Palette. There are four shades in the compact: a shimmery pink, a shimmery peach, a cool vivid pink and a shimmery pink/peach. For $45, you get them all in one easy-to-pack container. I like them because they’re super-pigmented, so a little goes a long way, making the price tag even more economical. Tarina Tarantino has really impressed me lately and this palette continues that trend.

The NARS Danmari All About Cheeks Palette is a little pricier at $65, but still totally worth the splurge. It has six different shades: gold ivory, peachy pink with gold glitter, cotton candy pink, dark brown with golden shimmer, peachy pink with golden shimmer (their best-selling Orgasm shade) and berry with gold shimmer. NARS blushes are notoriously fabulous and this palette shows why. Each shade is more gorgeous than the last! It’s a full blush wardrobe in one palette and the colors all blend really well, making it an even better choice to take home with you.

If you’re heading off on a trip, whether it’s for the weekend or a month-long tour of Europe, you can totally get away with just packing these two items and my forever favorite Benetint Pocket Pal for a portable red blush and lip stain. You won’t have to think about blush for your entire time away!
