First off, let me clarify that I am a guy who is deeply sadden by all the domestic violence that is taking place in today’s world. It also amazes how many people (Both men and women) don’t seem to care that domestic violence is now the number two leading cause of death in women, in today’s world. I have been aiding abused women for over twenty years and started my web site called “BECAUSE I CARE” (A site to aid abused women) back in the late ’90s. So far I have helped over 20,000 abused women before AOL messed up my counter and won the Golden Web Award for my site.
I am the sole financier of my web site because I refused to accept government and state funding. I didn’t like being restricted to following their guide lines and rules. I wanted to be able to go one step further to help these women who couldn’t seem to find the help they needed for counseling, education, jobs, food and clothing plus help them find a place to live. Various organizations, churches, managers in the restaurant field, etc. have been a big help to me in finding them all they needed to start a new life.
During my duration of aiding abused women, I have helped many get out and move on and know a lot who lost their lives to it or stay in these abusive situations. I have learned that the only way you can help these women, is when they are willing to help themselves and take that first step. Something a lot of women have told me they wished they had done many years ago but never found anyone to stand behind them and push.
Thanks to the way my mother raised me, I have a lot of respect for women and dislike guys who use and abuse them. Another one of my many reasons for getting involved. These women are lost and confused with a very low self-esteem. They need to know they are not at fault, need to learn how to forgive and heal, over come their fears, how to break the pattern and know there are people in this world who do care. Yes! Even guys. We are not all jerks.
I could write a book about abuse and the women who shared their stories with me. Yet, it’s difficult to get a lot of abused women to view my site, little alone read a book. But most do watch TV programs and I am trying to get Lifetime For Women to air a month long marathon on the many movies (TRUE STORIES) made of domestic violence. Maybe they will help to open a lot of women’s eyes.
So, if you are true to your articles of aiding abused women, check out my site and please publish my site address. I don’t have all the answers but I have managed to help a lot of women. With my help and the help of other domestic violent agencies, maybe we can reach a few more.
Respectfully, Dusty Meyers
