Sun in Sagittarius square Saturn and Uranus, Dec 3 to 20, 2008
How this affects you?
Right now wherever Sag is placed in your birth chart (and especially if you are a Sag or Sag’s opposite; Gemini) you just really want to be left alone to do your own unscheduled thing, in your own happy go lucky way. But right now you are not going to have that luxury. Saturn wants you to get real about where you’ve gone soft. Where you’ve rested on your past laurels without any continued upkeep. Where your “one day” is now five years and no progress later. There may be a real pressure to ignore responsibilities, to not acknowledge that things have stopped progressing. But this will eventually work against your attainment of any real goals and you just might find yourself at odds with the law, older or respected persons, and men of position. You may be tempted to because your way out of things with your charm and a good joke or two, but Saturn has turned a deaf ear to you and is piercing you with those cold, steel gray “see all” eyeballs.
Poor Sun in Sagg swings its eyes away and to the other side.
Uranus will appreciate how you march to the beat of your own drum, right? It is, after all, the Freak Planet, lover of all that’s unique!
Well … not quite. Uranus is a very impersonal teacher and its eyes are on your freedom and your future. So even if you have decided that the rut you’re courting is just fine with you, Uranus just sees the rut. It forces you to ask questions like, “Hmm, just why AM I taking daily stick in this job that pays me crap and that I cant wait to leave the minute I punch the clock to start my day?” “Why do I keep putting off that class I want/need to take just because I’ve got cold feet? Am I being ridiculous about this?” “Why don’t I come out of the closet, put those purple highlights I’ve always wanted in my hair, open my own business, leave my loveless marriage, take a chance, stand up for myself?”
Now, by human nature, some of us have energy that is more in line with Saturn already. We love structure! Discipline is my middle name! I’m not one bit afraid of some hard work! If this is you, then Saturn squaring the Sun right now will affect you by showing you how you are constipated. You may find that you are scheduling the LIFE out of your life. You may find that you have been holding yourself so very tight that if someone shoved a lump of coal up your behind they’d have a diamond in a day! Saturn unbalanced is bitter, jaded, afraid of change, and anything unexpected. It’s sort of like always expecting the door to freedom to be locked, so much so that even if someone tells you and shows you the door is open, you still can’t grasp it. Or maybe you are just too scared to …
Some of us are more Uranian by nature. FIGHT the power! MY RIGHTS TO THIS THAT OR THE OTHER! I’m gonna sell all my crap and backpack across Europe! If this is you, then Uranus squaring the Sun will affect you by showing you how your impulsive and unpredictable nature has not allowed you to get enough foundation underneath you to be stable and therefore fully effective in your life. You may have your ego humbled and realize that you need to think about other people and how your actions don’t just involve and affect you alone. You may realize your stubborn need to do it all your way has slowly but surely alienated you. You may find that its one thing to be a freak, a black sheep, a rebel, but a rebel without a clue is just plain useless. At some point you will have to learn to follow rules in order to stop hampering your progress.
Neither planet is all right or all wrong. Saturn can make us fearful and stuck, bowing our heads to whomever we feel is higher on the ladder than ourselves. Or it can bring calm by being realistic, contained and stable. Uranus can be destructive, manic and cynical. Or it can give you great flashes of insight and inspiration to change and fight for a better you and a better future.
Please note: These heavy hitters might be squaring the Sun, but the Sun is a powerful planet too and its squaring them right back! The sun’s indomitable spirit shines light in the darkest of corners and in ways Saturn and Uranus have to bow to whatever the light and the truth reveals too. The gift of Sag is blunt truth and the refusal to be kept from the experience that will best serve their souls.
This may be a time to look Saturnian people (bosses, parents, the father in particular though it can also be the mother if she was the authority in your household, conventional persons in society) in the eye and tell them that while stability and accountability are indeed important, their conservative ways may not be your way or even currently valid! Tell them they need to back off and allow you to find the way that suits you best to the end result.
This may be a time to look Uranian people in the eye and tell them “Yes, I may need to make some changes, but I don’t have to subscribe to your dogma! I don’t have to share your ideals and concepts of progress as I have to honor my own!”
Ideally we can turn this current transit into a chocolate vanilla swirl ice cream cone and let our taste buds pull out and appreciate the best of both. Honor stability and tradition (Saturn) in a new progressive way (Uranus). Find out where you are stuck and/or dragging ass and admit it. Be willing and open to make changes while at the same time making sure that the changes you’re making aren’t just for change’s sake; have it mean something. Have it be one step in a chain of steps to a definitive end. Let this transit heighten your awareness and allow progress into a new way of experiencing your life. Stand up. Step to the plate and claim your own authority and then live up to it. Pilot your ship.
Then our better stronger Sun in Sag can continue on his happy quest, wiser and more free, and all the better for this tough little encounter.
