I often read about secrets for losing and being thin. Sometimes there are magic pills, creams, and other fads that many of us are too happy to use, thinking that we will lose weight and get thin. Just today, I read an article that mentioned that people get fat because they eat the “wrong food” and that they don’t exercise enough and stories of how some famous people stay thin or lose weight. But none of these stories tell us about famous people with money to hire nutritionists to write their menus, chefs to prepare their meals, personal trainers to feed their egos, and plastic surgeons to do augmentation, lifts, tucks, and nip parts which time, food, and emotions have endowed. With most of us not having the resources of the rich and famous, losing weight and staying thin seem things reachable only in dreams. So distant a dream, that many of us feel that we can only live vicariously through the pages of those gossip magazines that show pictures of the sculptured bodies of the beautiful people of Hollywood.
Keeping the body in shape is not only for the beautiful people of Hollywood. Many of us can achieve that “dream” if we only wake up from that “dream.”
I do have a recipe for staying thin and losing weight and it works. It works for me and for millions of others. Most importantly, it’s free, so join in. It’s called eat less and move your body more. It only requires that you are a realist.
By now, if anyone thinks they can eat as much as they want and not cross the border from thin to fat, they’re delusional. I don’t need to be a genius to examine my family tree and genetics to tell me that if I eat too much, I will get fat. Does anybody actually think that the food we eat makes us fat? Who needs a genius to tell them that it’s how much you eat that makes us add layers of lard on our bodies. Let’s speak the truth and not lie to ourselves or to each other.
Look, if you eat a bucket or half a bucket of fried chicken once a year, you won’t get fat and it may not kill you. But, if you’re in the habit of eating that much every day, you’re delusional to even think a little of exercising at the gym will help you stay thin. No, you will not stay thin; no, you will not lose weight. Yes, you will get fat, stay fat, become obese, or die of coronary or of other weight-related diseases. Now, nobody needs to be genius to figure that little rocket science out.
Having relatives of all sizes and on both side of my family, I realize that I had both the genes and the will to be either fat or thin. I consciously chose to join the thin side. I can always say that I’m lucky that I was not overfed as a child it is possible that I would have a difficult time, curbing my body’s need to be fed more food that it can actually handle. There are many parents that overfeed their children, causing them to put on weight faster than other children, which if not dealt with early enough, that group of children will develop a weigh problem because these children have developed a habit of eating more than their bodies need. Normally, overweight or obese parents will have overweight or obese children and so on, so the circle continues and the genes adapt. There’s a no need to conduct any special studies and do any number crunching, just look around you and be the judge.
I ask you, is it the overfeeding, eating too much, or is it really those dreadful genes? We can blame our genes for many of our physical characteristics such as our eye color, our curly or straight or coarse hair, and others. Nonetheless, we should not overeat and overfeed our children and blame it on genes or the types of food that we eat. You don’t need to be a geneticist, a nutritionist, or a medical doctor to make that conclusion. It’s common sense, eat less and do take a walk. I’m sure even if many of the thin and beautiful people of Hollywood were to eat as much as most of us do, they too would be as large as most of us are. Take care of it now. It is not just our weight that we put on hold, too often we wait until things get out of control. Prevention is essential.
