It was her first day at work in that company. Catalina was anxious and wanted to start doing her job as she was very qualified and competent for doing it. Her first meeting for introducing herself at the Company crew members … at 9:00 a.m. sharp. She started talking and suddenly somebody’s slight laughs were heard in the conference room. Catalina’s face turned red and she had her hands humid in that moment that seemed to have no end. She felt so embarrassed. But why that person was laughing? I’ll tell you that she was laughing because Catalina’s voice is like one of a twelve-year-old girl.
Everyone should know, and have always in mind, that every person has a natural dignity given by God. Every person has the right to the appreciation and esteem of everyone. Honor is the external testimony of the esteem that we have to all people. Therefore, let all know that laughing because of someone’s defects in presence of people to shame or embarrass this person is an attempt against their honor. Besides, embarrassing a person in front of others can convert him or her in someone not wanted or loved for others.
For many, it is very difficult to see or to love all people the same way. We sometimes need to die ourselves to love someone who has hurt us, and, you know, even this person has the right to have honor and we do not have the right to steal the esteem or appreciation which deserves. We have to make the difference. Just imagine a world where every time and everywhere we could see each other as who we are: an image of God.
