The third class in Pilates separated the girls from the woman. We were down eight girls—eight! The one man in our class is sticking to it but what happened? Is it just coincidence?
Our instructor no longer gives direction for beginners—we all have stepped up to intermediate. I still find it fun and I look forward to each week and I hope more woman get out there and do something for themselves even if it’s only an hour a week for a class or fifteen minutes a night to relax or ten minutes in the morning to stretch.
This class is helping my back and I am starting to see subtle changes. Last weeks class kept us moving and the only thing my sister was able to mouth to me in the whole hour was “ouch.” I simply nodded in response because the instructor walked around even more.
With this class I am getting more than a workout. I really feel good despite the pain and the slow walk back to my sister’s house. If you have someone to share the experience—share it and if you don’t … take a class anyway. I do recommend Pilates because taking it through the local high school is not expensive. The equipment you need is you … a resistance band and maybe a ball in the near future. You can keep up with it during the week with a DVD every other day for thirty minutes but the stretching you do before bed and in the morning … will keep you feeling great.
