Many of us were not shocked when China decided to punish Liu Xiaobo. Obviously using Liu Xiaobo as a tactic to scare the rest of China into submission. Nonetheless, the decision is disappointing. It is a shameless move for China to have made and I hope the rest of the world joins in and demands the release of Liu Xiaobo.
In the midst of this global warming and climate justice, one would think that China would in the very least give the pretense of having respect for basic human rights by freeing Liu Xiaobo. Under the scrutinizing eyes of the entire world, China shamelessly imprisoned this man for absolutely nothing and just because China’s dictatorial government can do so. Just imagine what China does when no one is watching—a spooky thought.
What I find even more perverted is that millions of people supported “climate justice.” “Global warming” enthusiasts embraced China and supported the idea that the Western World ought to give money to developing and poor countries of which China stands to be the biggest of recipients of funds. A country that does what it wants when it wants, when it wants to, a country that blatantly abuses human rights, a country that refuses to cooperate unless it has call the shots, a country whose people get thrown in prison simply because they oppose the small group of people that insists on dictating on the billions of Chinese people live. How absurd can Westerners be when they support giving money to the Chinese government? If you want your money, that of your forefathers use to abuse Chinese people, by all means, give “climate justice to the Chinese government but don’t ask others to do the same. And while you’re giving your money, do know that your money will reinforce the prison walls of the many prisoners such as Liu Xiaobo and will in doubt go on to support crushing dissidents.
I find nothing wrong with people who value and want to be good to the planet. I actually applaud those who show concerns, those who care enough to stand up and encourage efficient use of resources. What I find repulsive is the ruse behind a movement that many have put their hearts and souls into. There is an entire generation that supports climate change solely because they are concerned. There are however, countless others whose personal agendas have taken this well intended idea hostage and elevated it to perversion and calling it “climate justice.”
“Climate justice”, which calls for industrialized wealthy countries to give money to poor nations because those wealthy nations have made money on the back of those poorer nations is as irrational as Chaberlain and Daladier’s dreams in the Munich Agreement. As shocking as it seems, Chinca, the biggest of polluters, wants “climate justice” money and does not want to stop the population. The justification is China has not done enough pollution and has the right to continue to pollute. And, while China continues to pollute, gets “climate justice” money, China wants the right to continue to crush its citizens who dare Question China. That’s right, China gets paid, pollutes, tells others not to pullute and harasses its citizens. All those things an entire generation of folks must silently support.
And if you’re of European descent, your forefathers have done enough damage and you are to feel guilty for what your forefathers have contributed to western civilization. Not that others have not contributed, but I find this white guilt a bit much to swallow.
There are obvious reasons why some countries are poor and why some are wealthy. To ignore that reality, is to block the recipes capable of eradicating poverty, illiteracy and hunger. The guilt trip on wealthy countries will result in the usual handouts, and as usual, the resources will be misused.
One of the reasons needed to create wealth, is that industrialized nations are democratic nations. Other reasons such that the citizens of these countries enjoy human rights, they fight corruptions and they have a free press to keep the government from oppressing the people prevent abuse and give the people hope. Is it possible that the lack of such environment discourages economic growth and social advancement of the many poor countries? Exactly how global warming has affected governments to make them oppress their people and force them into utter poverty is beyond “my pay grade” if I may borrow that terminology.
To me, “Climate justice” is an oppressive government’s dream. It is free money to dictators so they can continue to oppress their people and keep them poor. Beware wealthy nations, it won’t stop here, it is a circle that goes round and round and your money will only enforce that circle.
The failure to address corruptions, authoritarian governments, civil wars, human rights violations and environmental misuse that are symbolic of the many impoverished countries, is not only an injustice but an endorsement of the oppressive governments that continue to fail their countries and their people. No amount of money that “wealthy nations” give to those countries in the name of “climate Justice” will make a difference. Why anyone would give money to governments that oppress their people is simply silly, careless and inhumane. These mistakes will condemn millions into a life time of poverty, remove every possibility of escaping poverty and reinforce the inhumane treatment to which their governments have sentenced the poor and the oppressed.
Let’s learn from Neville Chamberlain and Edouard Daladier and not be so hasty and foolish. “Climate justice” is perverse.
