I originally sat down to talk about a male friend who was jealous over a sports star but decided to save that for my personal blog. Instead, I find myself now typing about ... well nothing.
As a writer finding your voice is the hardest thing to do. You might start off with your ideas pouring out on a daily basis, then get comments or replies from people pointing out what they like and don’t like, which may cause you to alter your way of writing. Soon your work ends up sounding like your hero’s, or worse, bad ad copy.
A break is needed. Especially if you are on deadline and honestly need to have a straight head for things. I find myself in this place over and over again, stuck with a wall of writer’s block.
It even had me doubting my path as a writer. Was this really what I am meant to be doing with my life?
Yes, no, maybe?
One afternoon I was stuck with a fairly bad case of writer’s block, and decided to watch an episode of wrestling. My favorite wrestler was wearing a pair of pants that was very colorful, so colorful, in fact, that I started thinking of a large bowl of fruity cereal. Without much more prompting, I had a short but full scene with my lead villain eating a bowl of cereal. Odd, yes but when one is plagued by writer’s block anything is better then that.
I mentioned this moment of creative dribble on my personal blog not too long ago. Today, I was reading the blog of my favorite wrestler, and what did he talk about ... eating a large bowl of cereal.
It’s true that in life what goes around, comes around, and in this case it’s unblocking writer’s block and just keeping an innocently fun outlook on life.
