Oh wow! Love! What a magical word! And, not only is it a word, but a state of being; a feeling, a tangible thing to be shared, cultivated, and explored. I remember the first time I learned about love.
As a little girl I asked my mother what she thought the purpose of life was. “Well Veronica, I believe our purpose in life is to love one another.” “What?” I thought. “That’s it?” I was shocked! I thought she would have come up with something a little more exciting like, “Well Veronica, the purpose of life is to make as much money as possible so you can buy lots of toys and eat fancy dinners every night. Also, to be the best person on the planet.”
After much thought about her response, I was filled with inspiration. My mother, the person I admired most in the whole world, shed some beautiful light onto me. Her response helped me grasp the true meaning of my existence—and it was so simple! Up until then (granted I was only about six years old at the time), I believed life was meant to be a big, complex struggle filled with hopes of reaching some certain status and have the best Barbie dolls on the block. But “love one another”? I hoped she was on to something.
I’m very grateful my mother shared this idea with me at a young age. After this conversation I decided Love would become my religion of choice and there was no going back. I was determined to become the greatest lover I could be!
These days, I still practice my religion and worship daily. Every morning I take time to be thankful for this amazing life I have been blessed with. As I arise, I look out my window and say out loud, with a big smile on my face, “Thank you God for today! It’s going to be an amazing day!” I place my hand over my heart and feel a great amount of love radiating from my soul. A little shiver goes up my spine and my smile grows even bigger. When I feel this, I know I am radiating so much love the whole universe can feel it. Not such a bad way to worship, is it?
So, I ask this of you: Have you radiated any love today?
