It started on September 1, 2010, at about 7 a.m. I never thought that I would ever leave Maine and move 1600 miles to Naples, Florida. I guess it really started a few months prior when my loving boyfriend decided that he no longer liked Maine winters. I remember him asking me if I wanted to move to Florida and I answered yes. Then it began, the planning and the itinerary for our big move; Michael planned the entire trip (bless his heart) and all I had to do was give my notice to my job and start packing. You don’t realize how much stuff you actually have until you start to pack. I gave my notice and cried the entire time. My wonderful coworkers and friends planned my going away party on my last day. I had become attached to everyone I worked with and I was sad, but excited at the same time.
Jump to the morning of our trip. We started out early and hopeful that we would arrive in Florida safely. Our first day was a bit stressful and we were both anxious and a little tired. We stopped several times to stretch and refresh our brains and fill our stomachs. We traveled through Connecticut, Massachusetts, and many other states before nightfall. We arrived at our first hotel at two in the morning, yep, 2 a.m. Exhausted and cranky.
Next morning we had breakfast and loaded the already-overpacked car to begin another day of travel. The second day was a little better than the previous day. We were not as tired or as cranky. Still anxious though … Second day we spent in South Carolina and saw some beautiful sites. The remaining four days we spent relaxing in Sarasota, Florida, and that was the best part of our trip. We went to dinner and enjoyed ourselves taking pictures and just being together. We finally arrived in Naples and we were relieved and so glad that we made it alive and without driving each other crazy. We definitely tested one another, and our relationship was tested as well, but we did it and now we are living happily and in paradise, as far as we are concerned.
My boyfriend has cancer and he chose Florida to live the rest of his life here. At first I was a bit reluctant to move and leave my friends, but with every passing day, I am glad that we moved here.
