life is but a fleeting moment
and we are unimportant in the scheme of things
Yet life goes on, in spite of all we say and do
and life is never kind.
And if the truth of it were known to all
there would be little gained in our short years
the melancholy of our hopeless state
would overcome the mind
The spirit would collapse if time were known
for nothing of ours lives remains
and we would be the hopeless pawns of fate
all ripples in the whirlpool of time.
Let us resign ourselves to this our fate
life only gives what we can reach and take
from nothingness to nothingness we flow
and naught becomes of what we leave behind
we cling to gods to give us hope beyond
the dismal lives we live in vain
we live our lives as if we may be judged
and disregard the pleasures that we find
no judgment lies beyond the tomb save one
when given life, did you choose to live
or did you cower, afraid of what you feel
instead of living life sublime.
