We all know that eating meat is not as healthy as eating vegetables and fruits. Well, did you know that eating meat is a relatively inefficient use of natural resources? Have you wondered about all that packaging it took to get that slab of flesh on your plate? What about the truck drivers using all that petroleum to get it there too? Now, it also takes an incredible amount of trucked-in processed food to feed those animals. Then they have to be taken to the slaughterhouse. Yes, you’re thinking, that would fine and good if it made me just so incredibly hot and turned back the hands of time. But my darling, it does the opposite!
Your body really struggles to process flesh. However you can feel light and yet full when you eat whole grains, vegetables, tofu, nuts, beans, and fruits. Not to mention how tight and fit your body looks—whether clothed or naked.
Now to get back to why you need to consider the global and local impact of what’s on your plate: The number of nutritious calories delivered by meat is way lower than the calories humans can get through direct intake of grains. Yet we are having to use more and more of that good grain to feed cattle rather than human beings.
Can you believe a third of the world’s grain production, as well as third of the global fish catch, is being used to feed livestock? That’s sick. We are also seeing more of the planet’s farmlands being turned into grain fields to feed cattle instead of humans.
If you’ve been wondering why food costs have been going up, it’s because of our shift to use land to meet the demands of ethanol and meat production. That’s why food is costing more and more. If we went back to eating a more direct diet of vegetables, legumes, and fruits, then our grocery bills would be lower and we would look better.
If you care about your looks (we know you do) and your wallet, then consider eating more whole grains, vegetables, and fruits. Get away from heavily processed foods and meats. Take time off just for you by exercising, doing yoga, or taking a deep, soaking hot tub bath. You’ll erase years off your face and you’ll feel better. Who knows, you might start looking at yourself in the mirror naked more often!
