Fall is my favorite season for endless reasons. Boots, shawls, scarves, sweaters, pumpkin lattes, romance, Halloween, and not to mention mother nature at its best, turning ordinary trees into an array of stunning jewel toned beauties.
Inspired by the natural beauty in the air, this fall I tried to incorporate the natural into my beauty regime. I am a typical product junkie, from the drugstore to high end department store brands, I love experimenting with the various potions and lotions available.
I am blessed with pinky, sensitive skin and even that doesn’t keep me from slathering on new products on a continual basis, risking the temperament of my skin.
So, it was a bit of a challenge for me when I decided this fall to forgo my lavish collection of cleansers and scrubs and masks and lotions for a more simplified routine—as close to nature as possible. Now, I don’t consider myself to be eco-chick, green, or eco- conscious. I do my best to recycle, conserve energy . . . but I have a more laissez-faire attitude to life.
I just recently decided that I wanted to go green for my face, and that’s how this regime came about and couldn’t have been happier with the results. In addition to softer and calmer skin, I find that the benefits of a natural skin care regime have also impacted my attitude. I feel calmer, prettier, and overall feel more inspired to be more green. I seek more greens in my diet, feel more drawn to drinking water, and feel a subconscious pull towards indulging in more yoga.
So what changes did I make to my skin care?
I start off my day with washing my skin with a natural green tea and cucumber soap infused with green tea extract, cucumber, and clary sage essential oil, which is a mini aromatherapy experience in its own. I follow up with a simple Lait-Crème Concentrè by embroylisse (not very organic, I know! I am still looking for a balanced, hydrating natural moisturizer).
At night, I remove my makeup with 100 percent pure almond oil. I follow this up with a yogurt face pack. Just simple, plain hormone-free yogurt applied on the skin and left to dry for fifteen to twenty minutes. I wash off this yogurt pack with lukewarm water, and follow up again with a light massage with almond oil.
The results so far?
My dry, change-of-season patches have disappeared, my pores are less visible, and inflammation has been greatly reduced. I use the twenty minutes of face-pack drying time at night as “me” time. No distractions, just contemplating the day and enjoying the feeling of doing something good for myself.
I find the beckoning of a new season to be very inspiring for the soul. Switching to a more organic way of life not only benefits your physically but also seeps into your attitude, making you feel lighter, more organic and closer to nature.
Would you be willing to forgo your go to products for a dose of nature this fall? Does the thought of natural beauty appeal to you? Or do you find it unnecessary to give up a skin care routine that is already working for you?
