Controlling thoughts

Recently, I have been thinking a lot about the way our mind, our thoughts work. I have the habit of reading a lot. I have read lot many articles and books about our thinking patterns, our attitude, how positive thinking helps us in achieving whatever we want from our life. I used to read such articles and forget it. Though I believed in it, I had never tried to use the formula of visualization, affirmations in my life. Few days back when I was planning on buying a new house, I was very much worried about getting home loan and making all payment as per the schedule given by the seller. I was literally visualizing about not able to make payment and deal getting cancelled and I being homeless. This visualisation was not planned. This kind of negative thoughts always comes to our mind with out any effort. It was taking control of my mind. I was unable to sleep for days.

Then I thought, this should be ended or else I might get ended up in a hospital. One day, I was alone and again my thoughts wandered to a dangerous negative mode. I tried controlling my thoughts. I said to myself, Look if you can think about bad things happening to you so easily, might as well try to think only good thoughts. Though it might not come true but instead of getting freaky with negative, bad thoughts, I might feel better by thinking that I have already have my new home and living happily there. I started doing this initially with much effort. As you know that our mind is like a flowing water. It does not stop at one point, it runs aimlessly. Slowly and steadily, I started controlling my thoughts. It helped a lot to me. This was a very small case but I feel if we apply this to major problems of our life, we can conquer worry and live happily and confidently. In my opinion, happiness is not an attitude, its a state of our mind. If we think and have happy thoughts, we feel better and look forward to life.
