How To Make A Milk Bath With Home Ingredients

Last week I got sooooooo sunburnt on my Caribbean vacation!
I obviously got a little carried away and thought my pale, city-skin could somehow withstand a barrage of equatorial sun.
Clearly I was wrong. :-(
There was at least one positive that I took away from this experience and that was I learnt how to make a milk bath using some simple ingredients that I already had at home in my kitchen.
I’d heard bathing in milk was meant to be amazing for repairing damage caused by the sun, but after reading even deeper I discovered it also has the ability to help reduce general aging problems like wrinkles and fine lines.
This was exciting for me because right now I’m testing out an anti wrinkle solution called Natox [1], so any extra help I could get would be seriously useful!
After the first bath, I was hooked. By the time I returned home, my skin was a serious mess. I can’t describe to you the feeling I had when I first climbed into my milk bath – complete and utter relief!
The following day I could instantly notice the difference, with my regular glow returning right away.
THANK GOD!
I would totally recommend giving this a try if you’re suffering from any kind of sun damage or you’re looking to add a little extra life to your skin.
Here’s What You’ll Need
I’m a big organic foodie, which is why I already had all of the ingredients in this remedy, but if you don’t you can definitely pick them all up from any supermarket or natural food store.
One Cheesecloth
We’ll be placing our ingredients into this cloth and using it to slowly release the mixture so that you won’t be bathing around in chunks of gross milk powder and oatmeal.
Eww!
Milk Powder – 3 Cups
Any milk powder will do, it doesn’t matter too much. It’s the lactic acid contained in milk that we’re most interested in for it’s healing and rejuvenating properties.
Oatmeal – 1/4 Cup
Oatmeal is an amazing exfoliant and it also has the ability to relieve any dryness and itching associated with certain conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
If you’re peeling after getting too much sun, then oatmeal will help remove any dead skin that may be causing irritation.
Ground Almonds – 1/3 Cup
For this you will need a blender to grind up your almonds, which are amazing as the oil they contain is one of the best moisturizers known to woman.
By grinding up the nuts, the oil should be able to ooze out nice and slowly into our bath.
Sea Salt – 1/4 Cup
Sea salt contains bromide which has incredible soothing properties, plus the potassium it also has will help to regulate oil levels in your skin.
Corn Starch – 1/3 Cup
This ingredient again also has amazing soothing properties. It’s commonly used for conditions like nappy rash and psoriasis to help sooth any redness and irritation.
How To Make A Milk Bath – Step By Step
There’s a slight amount of preparation involved in making our bath, but it’s so simple that anyone can do it.
Just follow these steps and you’ll be bathing like Cleopatra in no time!
Step One: Take a medium sized bowl and pour in all of your ingredients and mix using a wooden spoon until the blend looks nice and even.
Step Two: Take your cheesecloth and pour the mixture directly into the center of the cloth. Next you just need to bring all four corners into the middle, take an elastic band and tie the corners together so that the mixture is enclosed in a bag and cannot leak out.
Step Three: Turn on your bath tap and hold the bag containing the milk bath recipe over the running water, so that the nutrients it contains are run directly into the bath.
Step Four: Once it’s full, give the bag one last squeeze to ensure you release as much of the nutrients as possible.
Step Five: GET IN!
Try and spend at least 10 minutes in the bath to ensure you skin is able to absorb enough nutrients to recover from any of the damage caused from too much sun exposure or whatever issues you’re currently facing.
All that’s left to say is – sit back, relax and enjoy the soak!
