How have you been able to use social media to help market your book?
We haven't yet but Facebook seems to be a good option.
Do you have any advice for new authors looking to promote themselves on these sites?
No, the social media is a bit quirky. Not everyone uses Facebook or even Twitter, for that matter. So a decision as to which medium to use could be difficult.
What type of writing routine do you have? Any tips you can share about it?
Writing at the same time of the day every day helps. For me, writing in the morning, before anyone is up – even the dog – is great!
How has it been trying to balance your writing with your day job and/or family life? Is there anything you would change?
I once heard John Jakes tell a roomful of writers, "Don't quit your day job." He was describing his long journey to becoming a best selling author. He was right. Frankly, I would love to turn off my phone, ignore my email, and lock myself in my home office for hours and hours…and write. It just doesn't happen much.
Setting is an extremely important aspect in grabbing your readers attention. What made you choose the setting your chose?
The subject drove the setting, it always does.
What types of books do you read? How do you think they have influenced your writing?
Mostly mysteries, then non-fiction biography, and history. Everything I read influences my writing. Reading tends to lead to dreaming, and that tends to lead to devising, and all of that leads to writing. Really!
