Summer in Paris, France, is typically warm and buzzing with tourists, and we found exactly that scene when we visited the city for a weekend in late-July. Luckily for us, we had a reservation at Avalon Hotel Paris , a clean and comfortable 2-star boutique hotel within walking distance (5 minutes) of Gare du Nord (Paris’ northern train station).
Immediately upon entering the hotel we were impressed by the cleanliness of the entrance, reception area, and breakfast room (where we waited for 30-minutes while our room was being prepared). This same level of cleanliness was also carried through to the room (21) we stayed in for 2 nights.
We found our room quite a reasonable size for a Paris hotel, and as we had in inside room – the window opened up to the inner courtyard – it was very quiet, away from all of the street noise that would be found if our room had overlooked the main street.
Although the room wasn’t large, the layout did provide enough space for us to work and we made full use of the desk area. The good size flat screen TV with satellite was certainly an added bonus, but best viewed from the bed.
We were pleasantly surprised that there was an electric kettle with tea and coffee fixings available in the room – many 4-star hotels we stayed at in France did not provide this service.
The in-room safe was free to use, and we could fit all of our cameras, lenses and documents, but it was not large enough to fit our 14″ laptop (we travel with a laptop lock and could secure it ourselves).
If you are seeking a reasonably priced, safe, clean and conveniently located hotel in Paris, WJ recommends staying at Avalon Hotel. Plus, one of the websites we prefer to use for booking accommodations when we travel is HostelBookers.com , you can find a huge range of hotels and hostels around the world to fit every budget.
