It can be tough to feel beautiful in winter. When lips are chapped, skin is dry, and hair is hidden under woolen hats, many of us don't feel our best. Since so little is on display, the smallest flash of color can make all the difference, and this winter is full of polishes so hot they'll melt even the deepest snow drifts.
Black Shatter Topcoat, The Glam Slam Collection by OPI
This season’s must-have nail style is from the OPI capsule collection of tennis star and self-professed nail fanatic Serena Williams. The topcoat is black when first applied, but as it dries, it breaks up into a jagged, fractured mosaic pattern. Perfect over a glittery jewel-tone base color. ($9 at ULTA)
The One Less Lonely Girl Collection of polishes, released by the Bieb in support of the charity Pencils of Promise, features shades named after his hit songs. One Less Lonely Glitter, a deep and sparkly lavender, is fun enough for teen fans, yet sophisticated enough for those who rock out to “Somebody to Love” in secret. ($7 at Walmart)
Get your Gleek on with any of the polishes from this limited edition collection celebrating the smash hit Glee. Slushied, an opaque powder blue, and Miss Bossy Pants, a shimmery raspberry, are on-trend standouts. ($9.50 at Sephora)
Although technically a part of Dior’s Spring 2011 collection (and inspired by the Dior boutique in Paris), gray tones are perfect for wintertime too, and a great option for those with short, square-shaped nails. ($21 at Sephora)
This season, NARS re-released some of their most classic shades as a limited edition collection. Midnight Express, a rich navy, is a perfect pick-me-up for cold and snowy nights. ($16 at Narscosmetics.com)
Winter’s glitter fascination shows no sign of abating, and Katy Perry’s Capsule Collection for OPI (which also features the Black Shatter topcoat) is full of glittery, girly, glamorous fabulousness in a bottle. The shimmering pink Teenage Dream is a cotton candy–like confection straight out of Perry’s videos. ($9 at ULTA)
