The Scent of Spring: Eight Fresh Fragrances
When spring starts peeping its little green shoots up through the earth, I get the urge to wear a new perfume. The fragrance doesn’t have to be light or floral, but it must make me feel the pure joy of spring after a long, cold winter. The first hints of green, the sight of a fragrant lily of the valley when arctic blasts are still turning my fingers blue, and the first chirp of a finch … these are the things that bring a smile to my face and a bounce to my (rubber boot–clad) feet. That’s what I want in my spring fragrances—and if the bottle’s beautiful? Bonus!
Daisy by Marc Jacobs
Daisy lives up to its name with a sheer, breezy combo of gardenia, jasmine, and violet, with just a touch of musk and wood to deepen the scent. Appropriate for everyday wear, Daisy is delightful.
Not quite as delicate as its name, with notes including bluebell woods, hyacinth, clove, and cinnamon, Delicate is the smell of spring flowers with a dusting of rich soil. It’s not for everyone, but it’s one of the most arresting fragrances I’ve come across.
Inspired by sweet peas, with notes of sweet pea, marigold, apricot, lily of the valley, rose, and tuberose, Floret smells like an English country garden. Who can resist such an enchanting scent?
When I think of spring, I think of roses. Stella combines notes of rose, peony, mandarin, and amber to form a classic but modern rose fragrance. Unfussy and feminine, Stella is perfect for day or night.
Love gardenia but feel it’s a bit overpowering? Then Tiare is for you. Sparkling citrus notes in the opening meld with Tahitian gardenia, water lilies, and jasmine for a deeply feminine floral that never overpowers.

Hermès’s newest offering opens with a blast of sharp, green citrus that mellows gradually into its light, woody base note. It’s hard to describe yet somehow perfect—and don’t be surprised if your man loves it on you (and even borrows it from time to time).
Fresh and lemon-limey in the opening, with a light, floral heart, Versense will transport you to the Mediterranean with your first sniff. Uncomplicated, clean, and utterly wearable, it’s a great choice as spring progresses into summer.
