I Got My Glitter On at Sephora’s XpresSpa Nail Studio
I used to have such a bad beauty-product habit that I often had trouble making rent, so for me, any trip to Sephora is an exercise in self-restraint. It was already nearly impossible to go in for just one necessity, well, it just got a lot harder. This summer, now that nails have really hit the beauty big time, Sephora started offering in-store manicures at its new XpresSpa Nail Studios, with pro artists on hand to create amazing nail art and custom designs. Although right now the services are only offered in a few stores, Sephora is rolling out more Nail Studios across the country through the end of this year. Your local corner nail shop is very, very afraid.
Every Nail Studio has an iPad display where you can browse and choose from different pre-designed looks, from glitter to matte to gemstones to half-moons to hand-drawn designs. If you have the Sephora iPad app, you can even decide before you get to the store. Or just request something special—the nail techs on hand are totally capable of coming up with something on the fly.
Most of the looks utilize Sephora by OPI polishes, and can be customized to use whatever color you want. Not to mention that there are literally dozens of other nail polish lines in the store with open testers. Just sayin’...
Then she sponged on a coat of Sephora by OPI Blasted Gold, a micro-glitter crackle topcoat, and then a bit of Sephora by OPI Looks Like Rain Dear, which has slightly larger chunks of iridescent glitter.
Although the good folks at Sephora were kind enough to give me the first one on the house (you know, just like a crack dealer), the manicure I chose retails for $35. The cost varies depending on how complex the design is, whether it’s hand-drawn or pre-fabbed, and whether there are gemstones or other goodies involved. Most designs are in the $20-$30 range. If regular ol’ polish is your thing, a basic manicure is $15.
