As I’m writing this, the east coast is suffering through a crazy heat wave, while we in Los Angeles are enjoying pretty moderate 80-degree temperatures. (Hey, they have to give us something to offset the traffic, otherwise people would flee this city in droves!) Weather like this always puts me in a good mood and gets me excited about switching up my scents a little. As much as I like my CLEAN staples, summer means a chance to try out some others that I’ve been curious about or recently discovered and I definitely take the opportunity to justify a few fragrance purchases.
I was obsessed with Angel perfume for years, spanning a time period that went all the way from college through my first few years of living in Los Angeles. I eventually gave it up because it was a little heavy for the climate out here, but now that Thierry Mugler has invented a new, lighter version, I have a feeling Angel is about to make its way back into my life in a big way. Angel Aqua Chic is the first fragrance ever to be infused with aromatic waters, and with notes of Honey, Dewberry, Red Berries, Vanilla, Caramel, Patchouli and Chocolate (among others) it’s as delicious as the original, but perfect for warmer weather. I tried a sample of it the other day and it’s only a matter of time before I break down and buy a bottle because not only is it gorgeous, but it’s a limited-edition, so if I don’t act now, I might not get the chance to own it. That always motivates me to whip out my credit card as fast as possible.
Similar to my Angel journey, I first became obsessed with the original Bronze Goddess fragrance from Estee Lauder when it came out a few years ago. This summer, there’s a new version of it – Bronze Goddess Capr i – and it’s every bit as delightful as the original. Both fragrances remind of something I would normally wear on vacation – very beachy and clean, but with a hint of heat and sun to them. Capri is described as a Citrus Floral and has notes of Mandarin and Lemon Leaves, as well as Peony and Jasmine Sambac, with base notes of Creamy Vanilla, Amberwood, Patchouli and Musk to add depth to it. It’s very summery and pretty, but it sticks around all day on me, which is great for a lighter scent. It has some serious staying power! And as fragrances go, it’s pretty affordable at only $57 for 3.4 ounces, so it’s easy to justify on a trip through your nearest department store. Maybe you’ll even get lucky and find it at a counter that also has a gift with purchase offer going on. GWP’s are my downfall!
