What is more summery than the sun shining and fluffy white clouds in a blue sky? This super easy tutorial using nothing but nail polish and a q-tip will show you just how easy it is to get a blue sky with clouds look on your nails!
To do this manicure, you will need a blue nail polish, a yellow nail polish, a white nail polish, a piece of wax paper and a q-tip! I wanted to show you guys how the clouds look on different backgrounds so I used two blues, one with shimmer and one crème.
First, it’s time to use your favorite base coat and paint your base color which is the blue. Here is BB Couture Ball and Chain on the left and The Balm Sky Blue Right Past You on the right. Wait a few minutes for your base color to dry before the next step so you don’t smudge the base.
Once the blue is virtually dry, it’s time to prepare to do your clouds. Make sure your q-tip doesn’t have any long pieces of cotton hanging off of it otherwise it will drag on the nails. Put a dollop of white polish on the piece of wax paper. I like Essie Blanc because it’s fairly opaque and doesn’t dry too quickly so it’s easy to use for nail art.
Twirl the q-tip in the white polish dot on the wax paper before dabbing it onto the nail. This will make sure no stray cotton gets in the way and that you will get a slightly textured look to the clouds on the nail! Feel free to do as many or as little dabs as you like of the white, it all depends on what kind of a cloud look you like!
Once you have all your clouds in place, you can add in a little sun! I used Avon Sunshine for the yellow and just used the brush to make a yellow circle on the nail. If you want some rays, you can wipe off most of the excess polish to make rays with the polish or you can use a tiny paint brush to do so!
Now it’s time to wait for the polish to mostly dry (so it doesn’t smudge) and add a top coat! Voila! You have a really cute summer sky scene on your nails, perfect for a day at the beach!
