The story follows Debbie and Pete (who we first met in 2007 in Apatow’s Knocked Up) and their trials and tribulations of growing older together: Their angst-ridden teenage daughter; family members that suck the warmth out of their hearts (and the money out of their bank accounts); and the piles of other general problems that drive married people crazy. Throughout the film, we’re left guessing—will Debbie and Pete make it through this mid-life hurdle, or crumble in the face of anxiety.
The trailer gives us a peek at some of the films nuggets, including the always-hilarious Melissa McCarthy playing a shook-up mother, ("they told me my son he looked like Tom Petty, in a negative way"), or Debbie routinely catching Pete on the toilet with the iPad. Really, it was only a matter of time before someone poked fun at this obvious use for an iPad, and I'm glad it was comedic genius Apatow.
In celebration of the film's release, we’re giving away This is 40-themed goodies to one of our Facebook or Twitter followers.
