Many babies end up getting a flaky, scaly film on their heads, called cradle crap. It’s completely harmless, but a bit unsightly. I don’t know about you, but trying to scrape or scratch it off was a bit scary as the baby’s head is so soft and then there’s the “anterior fontanel, or “soft spot” where the two plates of a baby’s skull have not fused together yet, which should be avoided. A friend gave me a Burt’s Bees baby package containing Baby Bee Apricot Oil. I applied this to his scalp and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then, with a baby comb, I slowly combed through. It really helped to remove some of the crap along the edges of his face, which showed up the most. The best time to do it is in the bath while he’s distracted. He won’t try to rub his head with water and other objects to play with.

The oil won’t irritate baby’s skin either, so a few drops in the bath water can help ease itchy skin and bumps that appear on the legs. I used it a lot when my son was three and four and I still use it occasionally today. It smells great and is nice on adult skin as well! A four ounce bottle costs between $7 and $8 and lasts quite a while as you only need a few drops for each application.
