I have been flying Jet Blue for at least four years, and flying for more than thirty-six years. With the exception of some amazing foreign airlines such as Lufthansa, SAS, and British Airways—which is a whole other experience all together—I’m a huge fan of the Jet Blue experience.

Domestically, I’ve flown Delta (no thanks), United, (not my favorite), Southwest (okay), American (not great), Continental (so-so), and a number of smaller carriers as well. But since I’ve discovered Jet Blue, I try to avoid cities that they don’t fly to if I can’t help it.

Something about the way they do business is clearly working. No, they don’t serve hot meals, but they do serve snacks, and tasty ones at that—but in the airports that I frequent: namely JFK, they have a great selection of snacks that you can purchase before you board the plane. And, if you fly a red-eye from the west coast to the east coast, or as they call it, “Buh-bye, red eye, hello shut eye” you get a Bliss care packet that includes an eye mask, ear plugs, hand cream, lip gel, and a general feeling of happiness. Not to mention the flight attendants have a remarkable sense of humor and really make flying fun.

Then there’s the in-flight TVs. Everyone gets to manange his or her own viewing experience. Forget about the featured movie (they have some you can watch if you like)—you can watch Direct TV all flight long—whether it’s CSI, the Food Network, or the latest football game, you can watch it. Or, if you’re like me, I love just watching the map to see if we’re flying over Iowa yet.

Each month it seems Jet Blue is adding more cities to their list of destinations. If your favorite city isn’t among them, just wait. I’m sure it will only be a matter of time. They’re doing something right for a change.

For easy check in tips: you can print your boarding pass at home before going to the airport, then if you’re checking baggage, you only need to stand in one line. If you are traveling light—you can head straight for security and to the gate. You can even choose your seat at home. My favorite: the emergency exit row for extra leg room.

Even better: last time I was at JFK, I noticed an ad for the Jet Blue Visa card. I think I’m signing up for some of that action... the more miles the better.
