I recently found out that I live in a radon-heavy area of Atlanta. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, radon is a natural radioactive gas that you can't see, smell or taste, and is the leading cause of lung-cancer among non-smokers.
I did a little research on radon tests. There are longer term tests that can take several months, as well as short-term tests that take only a couple of days. You can have a professional test your house, or buy a test at a hardware store.
We decided to buy a short-term test, the Kidde brand Radon Test Kit, from Lowe's. It was incredibly easy to do--we simply had to place the test kit on a surface in our house--and then mail it in to a lab. The lab emailed us several days later with the results.
The good news is that we have a very low radon level in our house. I'm definitely glad we tested it!
