Most of us have experienced or will experience some degree of lower back pain. Pregnancy, asymmetrical sports like tennis, and years of lifting grocery bags all put wear and tear on our spines. Eventually, I came I to accept my lower back pain as a fact of life.
Then, I learned I didn’t have to.
Even though I’m only nineteen, I’ve been struggling with some pretty inconvenient back soreness for about a year and a half. As far as I can remember, I never actually injured myself, but I would constantly feel this incredible tension in my lower back that got much worse when I was stressed. I couldn’t lift anything over ten pounds and could never find a comfortable sleeping position because pain would chase me all over the mattress. Worst of all, I found the pain began to compromise my beloved yoga practice.
Finally, I attended a lecture about back pain and injury at my local health food store, Wild by Nature. The man leading the lecture was David E. Trimboli, a chiropractor in Huntington, New York. Since I was the only one who actually showed up that evening, I ended up with a free private consultation!
Trimboli suggested I have my back X-rayed. He also ran a scan (SEMG) to reveal the muscle tension in the area. Both revealed so much about my condition. According to the X-ray, my lumbar spine is absolutely stick-straight where it should curve for shock absorption. This results in a lateral curve of the higher thoracic region, what most people know as scoliosis. The muscle scan showed some really intense muscle tension that was pulling my spine out of place. On a scale of green to red, with green being mild tension, and red being severe, my reading came out black. In other words, it was off the charts!
I now visit Trimboli Chiropractic twice a week for adjustments. I have to admit, it made me quite nervous at first. I’d heard stories about quacks who do serious damage, and here was a guy manipulating my body in all kinds of directions to let out big, resounding cracks! His humble, approachable manner soon put me at ease, however, and I must say I haven’t felt this good in quite a long time. Though it usually takes twelve to eighteen visits for full results, my experience at Trimboli Chiropractic has already passed the test. At yoga class the other day, I was able to roll out of a shoulder-stand absolutely pain free! Only a couple of weeks ago, the pain had taken the wind out of me.
