I sometimes get these nasty images in my head when my fiancé is late or not picking up his phone. What if something happened to him? And if it did, how would anyone know to contact me? And what if something happened to me, even a block away from our house? How would anyone know he was just a few doorsteps away, how would anyone know to call him, out of the hundreds of numbers programmed in my phone? This is something of a stress-causer of me, and I fortunately recently learned of a service that addresses this very issue: The ICE Campaign, "In Case of Emergency."

This method of contact during emergencies is quite easy, simply store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "I.C.E" ( In Case Of Emergency). For more than one contact name, enter I.C.E1, I.C.E2 and I.C.E3 etc.

A paramedic thought of this idea to enable Emergency Service personnel and  hospital staff to quickly contact the appropriate person in an emergency situation by dialing the number stored as "I.C.E."

My mother and my fiancé are now stored as my "I.C.E" contacts, and although I really don't like thinking about these kinds of possibilities, I feel more reassured knowing there is a campaign addressing this very issue.
