Brain, Child is the coolest parenting mag out there. In fact, I don't bother subscribing to any others. DivineCaroline meets all my daily parenting-mag needs, and Brain, Child is like a rare, decadent dessert. It's published just four times a year and I shriek when I see it in my mailboxes. Thought-provoking, word-count-be-damned essays about topics moms deal with on a daily basis but in a more subtle way, not the urgent, which sippy cup is best, kind of way. For example, a mom observes the troubled teenagers in her gentrifying neighborhood, an OCD mom tries to make peace with Kindermusik, an adoptive mom obsesses over styling her black daughter's hair perfectly etc. It's laugh-out-loud funny and also makes me cry. Most importantly, it makes me think even when I think I am too tired for thinking.

I completely agree - I have been a subscriber for several years and can't wait to get it in my mailbox. It's such a refreshing change from those "corporate" parenting mags which I akin to Velveeta! Thanks Patti, for spreading the word on this fab mag that ALL cool parents should read!
Thanks Patti! As a new step-mom of a nine year old girl, I can use all the help I can get. I'll definitely check it out!
From mommy happy hours—during play dates—to bribing the kids to behave at the mall, everyone has something to say when it comes to certain parenting techniques. What’s your stance? >>
