This is a great time of engineering innovation, and actually, it’s a great time to be alive. If you’re a “techie” type person (like me), there are almost too many things vying for your attention—from the iPhone, to ultra tiny video cameras, to increasable new automobiles, way too many cool toys! But it’s a rare breed of product that has an emotional impact on you. And it’s an even rarer product that can maintain their emotion impact on you over an extended period of time. My iPhone is of course one of those—I love it now as much as the day I bought it, and of course my iPod is another one.

But you might be surprised by my all time favorite “techie” gizmo type product—it’s the Creativations Magical Fireflies product. This is one of those obscure products that most people have never heard of. But even after years of seeing it in action (in my own back yard), my heart still swoops and thumps every time I see it. I think the best way to describe the feeling this product emotes is a deep feeling of nostalgia, the thing that make you want to say ahhhh during a 4th of July fireworks display.

I’m very fortunate to be the manufacturer of the Magical Fireflies product—not that I’ve every made much money from this product venture. Still, I love the direct impact this product has on my own life as well has the people that purchase them. After years of installing this product into family and friend’s backyards, and listening to the countless customer testimonials saying just how much they LOVE this product, it has become a weird, but nice, business venture. We do not sell very many Magical Fireflies (ah, yea, that’s an understatement), in fact, it’s more of a hobby product business than a full-scale business product. And for some strange reason I don’t really mind—and my customers very much like it this way. There is almost a strange “brotherhood” connecting the owners of Magical Fireflies together—yes, I know it sounds strange, but it’s true. Having the only Magical Fireflies in your neighborhood dancing around in your backyard, looking better than the Pirates ride at Disneyland will quite often translate into having people from all over the neighborhood (some you don’t even know), dropping by just to get a glimpse of your very own backyard fantasyland.
