When we think of Nike, usually we think of a white swoosh. Right? But since the company’s newest shoe innovation released last month, now we can think of Nike as being green. Nike Trash Talk is the first performance basketball shoe made from manufacturing waste. Seriously! The top part of the shoe is pieced together from leather and synthetic leather waste from the factory floor. The outsole uses environmentally-preferred rubber that reduces toxics and incorporates Nike Grind* material from footwear outsole manufacturing waste. Even the laces, sockliners and shoebox are eco-friendly. It’s too bad all of the zig zag stitching makes the shoe ugly.
A hint to Project Runway: can the contestants design some eco-friendly heels for us?
