It’s a fascinating thing America’s obsession with all things British. I should know my husband is English. When we moved to Delray from North West England, my husband was delighted to find a familiar pub he could go to for lager and camaraderie and the Blue Anchor delivers whether it’s a weekend night out or watching the World Cup. Their menu consists of traditional English fare like Shepherd’s Pie and Fish and Chips and an amazing beer list. When my in-laws visit, they rave about the authentic fish and chips- “it taste just like the chippies back home”, they muse.
The dark wood paneling and brass trinkets decorating the wall take you back to a traditional village pub. You often see various Premier League teams playing “football” on the many TVs and you never know who you might meet sitting at the bar; An Expat from London or holiday makers from the U.K. Regardless, you will here the words, “Hiya mate” coming from all directions of the pub.
Adding to the Blue Anchor’s charm is its location. Nestled on East Atlantic Avenue across from Veterans’ Park, you can find plenty of parking and seating. The Blue Anchor is a must stop- in- for- a- drink spot when making the rounds through Delray’s hot spots on a Saturday night. Live bands cover English classics after 8 p.m. on weekends.
The pricing is moderate, the food delicious, and the atmosphere fun. Visit the Blue Anchor to quench your inner British.
