Besides my full-time job at Here Comes the Guide, I also moonlight as a Wedding Coordinator. I love doing things with a slightly different twist for the weddings I am working on. In planning my friend Lucy’s wedding at Viansa Winery in May 2008, she wanted something fun for her Save-the-Date instead of the traditional paper announcement.

We decided to send out a magnet with all the pertinent info printed on it. Not only is this creative, it’s functional as well. Your guests won’t be likely to miss the wedding when they see your smiling faces every time they reach for the OJ. The magnets also make neat souvenirs—I’ve gone to friends’ houses and seen the magnets on their fridge from weddings years in the past.

The company we used to produce the magnets was Pioneer Color. They had great pricing, tons of designs to choose from and they can even do a custom creation. The final product was crisp and clear and had a nice weight to it. For 120 magnets we spent $200 and it cost $0.41 (the cost of the stamp) to mail them to her guests. Such a deal!

Helpful hint: If you are sending out Save-the-Date announcements of any kind, make sure to mail them to your guests six to nine months prior to your wedding.

What a great idea! For my save-the-date, I edited a photograph in photoshop, and emailed it to everyone. Not as tangible as a magnet, but it was even less expensive!
Disaster Dates

We’ve all been there. Maybe it was the one who “forgot” to bring money or the one who constantly brought up his “psycho” ex. Maybe the date never even showed up! Whatever the disaster, we’d love to hear about it! Share your story here. >>
