Casaville

This little Moroccan/French restaurant is a standout in a neighborhood known more for its bars filled with young professionals than its cuisine.

Casaville is comfortable, casual, and petite and serves reasonably priced dishes that don’t overtax the wallets of the twenty- and thirty-something inhabitants of Murray Hill.

A glass of the house sangria offers a pleasant start to a tasty meal. The sangria, made with French Bordeaux, rum, and tequila, is sweet yet potent—one glass is plenty.

Start with a couple of the hot and cold tapas, small appetizer dishes made for sharing.
We began with the Brie Tied (warm brie cheese with fried grapes and honey) that was a delectable combination of sweet and savory flavors. We followed that with the Briwatts (crispy dough leaves stuffed with chicken, almond, and cinnamon). Both paired well with the French rose wine we chose.

The main course was Couscous Royale, a tasty mixture of stewed chicken and lamb with vegetables, raisins, and caramelized onions, topped off with grilled merguez sausage.

If you’re in a rush or trying to catch a show, this place may not be for you. The service was a bit slow and disjointed. It was a bit difficult to get the server’s attention to order a bottle of wine. But if you have time to spare, the flavorful cuisine compensates for what the wait staff lacks.

Give it a try!

Excellent review. French cuisine was my first passion in the culinary field. I spent five years in an on again/off again love/hate relationship trying to master this intense classic gastronomical feat, but I realized that I enjoy it more than cooking it.
