I’ve spent some time on MicasaStyle.com and I have to say I LOVE it. If you’ve got a knack for decorating your home and you like to share your successes with others or if you just like looking into other people’s living rooms then this is the site for you.

The way it works is simple. People, like you and me, submit rooms for other people to look at, rate and make comments on. It’s like a social network for interior design enthusiasts. Every user can have their own avatar and little write-up about themselves. Plus, everyone can also have design fans and bookmark their favorite rooms and designers for easy viewing later. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a personal messaging system there to contact other designers directly but you can always make comments on any room on the site.

I think MicasaStyle is a great way to come up with new ideas for your own home or to share some of your rooms that you’ve poured your blood, sweat and tears into. But I haven’t told you about the best part yet. The most ingenious thing is that people can label stuff in their rooms. Now I don’t have to wonder where someone got a great lamp or sofa. Hopefully they’ve labeled the piece and they’ve given me all of the juicy details. It’s like Facebook for your home.

Now, I won’t sugarcoat it, the labeling process can take a bit of time and effort. But you don’t have to label everything in your room and it is really cool and helpful when someone does a detailed job. You can label everything from paint colors to knick-knacks to large pieces of artwork. And each label contains a spot for the brand, retailer, price and a short description. It’s really awesome when done right.

MicasaStyle seems to be just starting out because they only get a few new rooms each day but they have thought ahead to give you great ways to sort through all of the rooms. You can sort by space type, for example master bedroom, living room, yards & gardens or you can sort by budget or style tags. The sorting feature is really fabulous because if I am on a tight budget and looking for design ideas I can look at those within my price range instead of those rooms that are way out of it. And there are some gorgeous rooms on there already where money appears to be no object. (Fortunately for us regular people, there are lots of fantastic everyday rooms too.)

So I highly recommend that you check MicasaStyle out. It’s fun to drool over luxury homes or get creative ideas to decorate your own house and yard. There’s something for everyone. Oh, and don’t forget to add your own place. I did.  It’s not much, but we call it home!
