Outlook for the next quarter: Interpreting the 2007 Autumnal Equinox;
The Autumnal Equinox (Sep 23, 2007) is an astrologically relevant time as the path of the Sun crosses the celestial equator and enters Libra, marking the start of fall. It is also known as the time when day and night are of the same length. To look at tendencies for the US, for this next period, I have chosen to analyze the chart of the Autumnal Equinox for Washington, DC, our capital. In the United States, the fall has historically been an eventful time. Each year, the Autumnal Equinox falls in the USA’s 10th house and activates events relating to the country’s government, establishment and reputation (USA Sibly chart enclosed.) Each year in the fall, the leadership, the head of the country, and the economic powers have to reassess themselves. Appropriately, the Presidential and Congressional elections happen in the fall. We don’t have elections this year, but this is nevertheless a very intense time.
Equinox Chart: Tendencies for the rest of this year.
In the Equinox chart for Washington DC, the first thing we see is that the nation wants to actively debate current issues. The planet Mercury rules the Ascendant and the Midheaven (top of chart) pointing to a highly mental and analytical period. The country is seeking exchange of ideas, balance and compromise (Mercury in Libra). There is a drive to understand, investigate and disseminate information (Mercury trines Mars and Neptune in the air signs). The media, represented by Mercury as the messenger, have been in the forefront of the debate for a long time (it was prominent in the 2006 Spring Equinox and 2007 Summer solstice charts). During the past few years, many worthwhile documentaries such as Iraq for Sale and Why We Fight have looked under the covers at some of the abusive profits and business interests at work in perpetuating our wars. The debates will continue as long as Mercury keeps reappearing predominantly in current mundane charts. This may explain why impeachment is still very much alive in people’s mind, despite the assurance of the congressional leadership that there isn’t enough support for it.
Women in this country also keep being strongly represented. The question is whether women will cave in and sacrifice their needs (Venus opposed the Moon and Neptune), or will they inspire people to unite behind collective values. More about the role of women later.
The most difficult placement in this chart relates to Mars opposing Pluto pointing to more struggles for control. The Iraq war is the obvious expression of this placement, but the fight is also happening within the country as different ideas and philosophies keep being in conflict (Pluto in Sagittarius is in the 4th house of domestic affairs.)
Impact of the Solar Eclipse of 9/11/2007
This year’s 4th quarter may be more significant than others, because an eclipse occurred just a few weeks prior to the Equinox. 2007 is a potent year as you may recall there was also an eclipse before the 2007 Spring Equinox. This cosmic placement might influence the country’s direction for about a year. Some Astrologers have observed the influence of eclipses to last as long as three and a half years. Therefore the outcome of what is happening now may take a while to become obvious. Ironically this eclipse happened this past 9/11. Considering the amount of change the country has been subjected to since that day in 2001, having more light shed on the facts of the events is a necessity that the eclipse is pointing toward (Eclipse exactly conjuncts the Sun of 9/11/2001.) Another interpretation of the eclipse placement shows that the subconscious of the country is in need of a great shake up in order to heal (In the eclipse chart the Sun and Moon fall in the 12th house opposed Uranus in the 6th).
By adding the eclipse chart into the current interpretation, we could say that women in this country are meant to lead the nation (Venus rules the Libra Ascendant of the eclipse chart, and the Moon rules the MC). The creative power of women motivates them to establish a noble yet compassionate community. In addition, American women of every religious background are now called to generate a workable philosophy of their faith (Venus in Leo trines Jupiter in Sagittarius and opposed Neptune in Aquarius.) Meanwhile, common people are possibly clashing with the President and the balance is becoming more volatile and more unpredictable than usual (the Moon is eclipsing the Sun opposing Uranus.)
As we are trying to make sense of the time we live in, there is a bright spot worth noticing. Jupiter, the planet of expansion and good luck is currently passing over the USA Ascendant. That placement indicates that the nation is ready to enhance its image by increasing its wisdom. Maybe what happens this fall becomes the foundation of a transformed philosophy for the Country?
