Angel’s Words at 3 a.m.

I’m sure I wasn’t the only person in town who happened to be awake at 3:00 a.m. on a September evening, but I certainly felt something different. It was an early morning hour where for the first in a long time I didn’t feel loneliness. It was not the kind of edgy and uncomfortable, “searching for meaning” type of hour, which plagued me many times before. There was a playful sense of hunger for a different kind of sensation. Something other than any person could give me. A visual thought materialized in my head and in a concrete phrase, “I want to feel paint against my fingers.”

There are three reasons to believe this last thought was definitely from something much larger than myself (and from an angel):

The gift of painting and illustrating grows more powerful and fulfilling the more I put into it, year after year.

There has been a never-ending string of opportunities to open doors and meet new people through my ever-expanding works, year after year.

I have found the joy of helping people find themselves by telling them this story, year after year.
