Are You Martha or Mary?

In Luke 10:38-42, the Bible tells us of when Jesus came to Martha and Mary’s house they welcomed Him in. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to His teachings. Martha on the other hand kept very busy with serving. Martha was upset and asked Jesus,  “Is it nothing to you that my sister has left me to serve alone?” and the Lord said to her, “Martha, you are anxious and troubled over to many things, there is need for only one or but a few things, Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her.”(Amplified Bible)

I ask you again: are you Martha or Mary?

In your everyday life, do you keep yourself busy trying to always get things done, trying to make sure everything is perfect?

Are you too busy to take time out to spend with Jesus?

… Or …

Do you seize the moment and set next to Him spending time with Him and soaking in all the love He has for you?

One of the biggest mistakes we can make in our spiritual life is not spending time with God. Isaiah 40:31 tells us those who wait for the Lord shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. We can become strong enough to face any challenge that comes our way by spending Time in His Word, praying and fellowshipping with Him.

I myself lean more towards Martha but my heart’s desire is to one day be 100 percent Mary. I tend to try to make sure everything’s always perfect, so not to upset anyone or anything. Often forgetting about the most perfect One and what He wants to do for me. If you are—like me—a “Martha,” then I encourage you to get in your Word and sit with Him, listen, pray, worship, and I will do the same. I know my life will be much easier when I become a “Mary,” putting my life and trust fully in Him.
Jesus help me to be more like Mary and choose to put anxieties away and spend time with you.
