Routine, a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program. Is that what you are living today, a routine. As I prayed, God spoke to me about the routines that we create in our daily lives, routines that make us feel safe and comfortable; routines that impact our work, our family, and even our spiritual walk. Routines serve a purpose but can also be problematic as eventually they limit our ability to grow. We are so caught up with thinking in the box that we can’t step outside of the box to experience a new way of doing things.
Inevitably, routines cause our passion to fade and we lose sight of the objectives that led us to create the routine. We are so caught up in maintaining the routine that it becomes the objective and slowly but surely things begin to fall apart. Family routines lead to boredom and family members looking for other places to be, work routines lead to dreading having to go to work, and church routines lead to a lack of spiritual growth.
God is calling us to break out of our routines, to remember the passion and love that consumed us when we fell to our needs and surrendered our lives to him. Step out of your routine and seek out that new exciting action God wants you to take; experience God’s fresh new perspective for your life. Be like Jesus who made it a point to disrupt the routines that had blinded so many into believing that following laws was all there was too serving God. His grace opens the door for us to receive new and exciting spiritual challenges that make living for Him for than just a routine. Step out in faith and break out of the routines in your life!
