Can you imagine going to a hospital emergency room for chest pain and nausea only to be tested and treated as a drug abuser?
Can you imagine being disabled with Fibromyalgia, a disease of the muscles, and being grabbed on the arm so forcibly by the nurse to leave bruises?
Can you imagine being told by the nurse that she has seen your kind before, that you are faking, and only seeking attention?
Can you imagine being told by the nurse that you would lay there until you wear yourself out?
Can you imagine not having your spouse by your bedside because he was not permitted in the examining room?
Can you imagine reacting defensively to the verbal, emotional, and physical abuse by slapping the nurse?
Can you imagine being physically restrained without justification but in retaliation/revenge?
Can you imagine having assault charges filed against you for acting in defense?
Can you imagine having your attorney, judge, and jury railroad you and send you to a detention center for sixteen days for defending yourself?
Can you imagine spending an additional thirty days on house arrest with ankle monitor for defending yourself?
Can you imagine being sentenced to two years probation for defending yourself?
Can you imagine being sentenced to substance abuse counseling (although the only drugs are doctor prescribed and non narcotic) for defending yourself?
Can you imagine being required to register as a sex offender? Can you imagine being required to register annually for the rest of your life for defending yourself?
Can you imagine being told by your attorney that there would be no appeal and to get on with your life?
Can you imagine reading in the Greenville News that your very own defense attorney who failed you in the court of law is appealing a murder conviction for a known habitual criminal and killer? Not one but two cases!
Can you imagine?
It happened…only in the state of SC.
