I opened a book yesterday and a card fell out. It had an old thatched-roof English cottage on the front. I should have known it was from you. You sent me so many little cards; sometimes you stuffed them with a twenty-dollar bill and said, do something nice for yourself. Sometimes it was a winning scratch-off. You always said you couldn’t get out to the store to turn it in.
This card said …
Remember the good days are coming; God will not overlook all the kind and good things you have done to many people including your MOM.
Love you dearly,
In nine more days you will have been gone a year. I am doing okay. It isn’t as hard as I thought it would be. You see because you are everywhere every day. When I stuffed the artichokes the other night you were right there. I looked up and said, thanks Mom for teaching me how to do this. When I make my sauce now it is in your pots and it is amazing, it tastes just like yours.
You have come to me in my dreams many times and they are so real. Thank you for the card I found yesterday. It was found just when I needed it most.
Keep watching out for me … I miss you so much. You were my best friend. You were the most amazing woman I have ever known and I am honored to be called your daughter and your friend.
Hey, tweak God’s ear next time I buy a lottery ticket.
See you in my next dream Mom. I love you always.
