My biggest struggle lately has been my position at my job. I absolutely love what I do, and who I do it for. Yet, as many people have and will experience, the work environment isn’t always one that hands you flowers on your way in, or a pat on the back on your way out. Sometimes, people suck. Sometimes, even in a ministry, individuals can be careless, immature, and well people.
I have, however, had one main saving grace. My mom. Working with her has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. A mentor, a friend, a mom, to be there when I needed. She’s helped keep me sane in a crazy environment. The sad thing (!) is that she’s leaving at the end of this month. Random article I suppose, but as most people on this website realize, is that writing is definitely a release.
So into the void I voice my frustration and irritation with change. Of course life happens and we’re happy for others when good things happen, AND at the same time hating it because it will inevitably screw up your own. I over exaggerate, not screw up, but definitely cause ripples. Yet there is, as Freud would call, the id … that always gets the better of me and wants to stick my heels in the ground and keep the routine stable!
I digress, I remembered that when you beat egg whites for a ridiculous amount of time (or if you’re smart use a beater) it becomes fluffy and pretty, and makes other things fluffy and pretty! So I was thinking that, that must be how God works. We’re more comfortable in our current state, but He realizes that we will be much more happy and pretty, in a new state he’s trying to whisk us into. Yet the process is not fun, and usually takes longer than I would like. I’m trying to hold on to that, because it does help things. When you think about it, not only do you look better after being whisked, but you make other things look and taste better too. God type change is not just about us I would guess, but about the betterment of many.
“We know that change is rarely a smooth process. It can be intimidating and chaotic. In fact, transition has the potential to either launch an organization to the next level, or dump it into the deepest pit. That’s why wise leaders look out for change, then manage it, and lead their people through it.” -John Maxwell
Lord, help me be wise.
