The Garden of Life

Sometimes when we get the branches of our life pruned, we learn more about the gardening process: to plant, to water, to grow, to bud, to blossom. Thus, when a serious injury to my feet caused me to slow down, I took time to garden. In fact, I began to love to garden.

During this pruning time, I remember I also read a lot. While reading a women’s magazine one day, the theme of gardening jumped out. The staff asked women around the country if they could see the magazine as a room in the house, what would it be?

The staff assumed that women would choose the kitchen. However, they said, “a garden room.” Because the garden theme went along with the name of my radio show, Higher Ways®: A Source of Nourishment for Personal Growth, I decided to meditate further upon this concept.

As I reflected, a garden room seemed to make sense. After all, I thought this spoke of a woman’s time by herself. I could see myself in my own sacred space: writing, reading, listening to music, meditating, or just being. The same things I imagined women around the country doing in their own little corner of the world.

Thus, I decided to do something about this “Aha” experience. I wrote a book with this concept in mind. Our Garden Room: 365 Days of Nourishment for Your Soul became a flower in my garden of life and I want to share this fragrance with women.

This summer, don’t let busyness or even barrenness get the best of you! Take some time to read, reflect, and relate at a deeper level. Cultivate your garden of life. Then, watch your flowers bloom!
